Sound of Movies – Underbelly Razor hosted by Ashley Wincer and Ann Pulbrook.
Underbelly: Razor is a crime drama anthology series Underbelly. Underbelly Razor was broadcast from 21 August 2011 to 6 November 2011. The thirteen-part series details the actual events that occurred in Sydney between 1927 and 1936. Underbelly Razor depicts the “razor gangs” who controlled the city’s underworld during the era and the violent war between the two “vice queen” powers, Tilly Devine (Chelsie Preston Crayford) and Kate Leigh (Danielle Cormack).
I’ve always found Australian true crime to be quite fascinating. So I was just keen to watch Underbelly: Razor, but my expectations were not as high. The original Underbelly was going to be hard to beat. It was well made and we saw the news headlines as the war raged in and around Melbourne. Underbelly: Razor is set in the roaring 1920s and 1930s, so I was concerned it would not be as appealing due to being set in Sydney post World War 1. Well, I highly under estimated Underbelly: Razor. It was well made and it has a great story based on true crimes of the era. If you like any sort of Australian true crime, then you should sit down and watch Underbelly: Razor. You will not be disappointed.
Both Ann and I enjoyed watching Underbelly: Razor. It ended up becoming a rather quick marathon of watching episodes. We were both hooked to the story. After each episode, we were always tempted to watch just one more episode before heading off to bed. Before you knew it, we had watched the whole season and we were satisfied. Underbelly Razor is just as good as the original. Is it worth adding to your own personal TV show collection, absolutely if you enjoy watching Australian true crime. if in doubt, start with the podcast and go from there.
